What does the Sermon on the Mount mean for Christian living?
What a great question. It means so much that we can barely scratch the surface in this forum. The Sermon is found in Matthew chapters 5-7 of the Holy Bible. Ghandi (a nonChristian) told a British statesman, ‘When your country and mine can get together on this sermon, we will solve not only our problems but those of the whole world’ Here are a couple highlights. Identify true and false religion. By their fruits you will know them. It matters not as much what people or churches say as what they do. Look at what they produce as a clue to whether they are true or not. Fine conduct, love, racial acceptance, separation from the world and neutrality in the world’s affairs are vital traits of true Christianity. Prayer: Repititious, ritual prayers do not please God. They shouldn’t be for show, but come from the heart. The model prayer (Matthew 6:9-13) shows proper priorities. Sanctifying God’s name (in English, Jehovah or Yahweh) comes first. This means knowing and using the name and living up
