What does the selection afternoon involve exactly?
There are two main purposes to the selection afternoons. Arguably the main purpose is to give applicants a chance to get a very clear picture of what the course is like and what life studying at UCL would hold in store. We also want to get a chance to see what applicants are like. We do this by setting a group challenge which is like a scaled down version of the scenarios which undergraduates tackle in years 1 and 2. Members of the academic staff here supervise and observe groups in action helping us to decide to whom we should offer conditional places on our courses. Sometimes we’ll ask applicants to one side to discuss any unusual features of their applications. The overall idea is to create an interesting and absorbing afternoon which is useful and enjoyable for applicants and for the UCL staff and students who are involved.
