What does the public health nurse’s job entail?
As a public health nurse, through Partners Homecare, we provide services that best fit the town’s needs. We are able to provide blood pressure screenings, blood sugar screenings, medication review, wellness checks and referrals. The public health office is able to provide the public with immunizations for adults and children. I also do a lot of teaching to local companies and the community. A public health nurse is also responsible for communicable disease follow-up. What do you like most about your job? I enjoy meeting people, and being out in the community. I am able to assist people in navigating a complicated health care system. We are now in flu season. What can you tell residents to do to prevent them from getting the flu? Hand washing is key. It is important to wash your hands for 20 seconds using soap and running water. When washing your hands clean between each finger using friction and also the fronts and backs of hands. If you are sick it is important you stay out of crowds.
