Format the memory stick inside the PSP is done so that a brand new memory stick will be in the proper format (FAT) for use on a PSP, this formatting also creates the folders “PHOTO, MUSIC, VIDEO, PSP, ect”. These folders correspond with the icons on the PSP home screen. Unfortunately, when you format a storage device (any storage device), all of the data that is currently on the device will be lost forever. If you want to get online with the PSP, you’ll need to find an open wireless network (PSP only works with WEP security) or one with WEP in which you already know the password and username.
