The proposed calendar divides the academic year into three 15-week semesters (trimesters), called Fall, Spring, and Summer. Each of these sessions has 73 instructional days (not including Saturdays and Sundays). The calendar proposal assumes that a standard class hour is 50 minutes, so a traditional 3-credit class would have three 50-minute sessions a week, or two 75-minute sessions a week, for 15 weeks. The University of Cincinnati is adopting a similar trimester calendar. Cincinnati State and UC are both interested in a trimester calendar because it will facilitate co-op opportunities and possibly allow students to begin their classes during any semester. Ohio State and Wright State have proposed similar trimester calendars for their schools.
