What does the proposed bio-certification of the DLEP by Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC) mean for development in Wagga?
Subject to the final gazettal of the LEP, the NSW DECC has indicated support for biodiversity certification of the future urban footprint of Wagga Wagga. This will considerably reduce red tape for DAs including for major new development in Bomen, and the new residential areas. Bio-certification means DECC is satisfied with conservation outcomes in the nominated parts of the LGA and that bio-certification will “turn off” the Threatened Species Conservation Act requirements for certain land, leading to greater development certainty for landowners and quicker DA assessment times. A number of landowners have acted commendably in indicating a willingness for large portions of their lands which have high ecological values to be dedicated to the public as conservation areas as a component of any rezoning.
