What does the process of mitosis guarantee?

0

Mitosis guarantees that the subsequent daughter cells will contain the same number of chromosomes after cell division as the parent cell. However, sometimes non-dysjunction can occur (failure of the chromosomes to separate properly), which can lead to abnormal numbers of chromosomes within the daughter cells after mitosis, however, this is the exception, not the rule, but useful to be aware of. This passing on of the same number of chromosomes from one generation of cells to the next is in contrast to meiosis, as mitosis sees a replication of the number of chromosomes (in somatic cells), whereas meiosis sees a reduction in the number of chromosomes (within the germ cells).
