It could mean anything, the cartridges themselves, the cartridge printed circuitry, the circuit board inside the printer etc. In fact to be honest I have never seen a message like that before. However seeing that it is only a week old and under warranty, personally I would take it back and get it changed as that should not be giving problems within a week. As regards the answer about nearly empty cartridges, I wouldn’t take much notice of that because that would not be legal under any circumstances for a company to do that. Especially in the UK under the Consumer Acts.
