What Does The Prefix “Meta” Mean In Metacarpals And Metatarsals?
I used to teach anatomy at a local university before heading off to med school and to help my students familiarize themselves a bit better with the new “language” they were being forced to digest, I would often give them the Greek and Latin origins. I used a little dictionary of word roots and combining forms and my students used to tell me it helped them immensely. According to this little book, the Greek derivation can mean ‘between’ or ‘after’ while the Latin tends more toward ‘a boundary’ or ‘turning point’.
