What does the prefix “aria” mean?
bad air (and it is a suffix not a prefix) and here is something I found to explain what malaria is: I’ll try to start the whole thing off by giving you an introduction to malaria. Most of you probably are not experts in malaria. I’m with the laboratory of parasitic diseases at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at NIH. I’m also the executive officer of the Malaria Vaccine Development unit. I say this with some pride because the NIH and the US government in general has made a major decision in the last few years to put extra funds into malaria, primarily into the area of vaccine development. I’m not a true vaccinologist but I can give you a little summary of where things are going with malaria vaccines, and then our other speakers are going to talk about other areas of research.
