What does the Pre-sessional September course entail?
Students are required to attend pre-sessional September course in mathematics, statistics and economics. This allows students to review topics such as matrix algebra, multivariate calculus and differential equations. During September and throughout the Michaelmas term, students will also be required to attend an introductory course on Quantitative Methods for Finance. This provides an introduction to some of the concepts underlying the theory of stochastic processes in continuous time, with a view to finance applications. Details of the September course scheduling will be released to offer holders during the Summer.
Students are required to attend a Pre-sessional Course during September that covers quantitative methods and also relevant aspects of accounting, which students may not all have covered in their undergraduate degrees. The aim of this course is to ensure that all students have the necessary knowledge to take the core courses that start in October. This will also be good revision for those students who may have taken finance courses at undergraduate level. In addition to teaching, there will also be a programme of careers events and seminars to best prepare students for the job market. In previous years this has included a number of specific events run by City institutions.
