What does the poem fire and ice mean at the beginning of eclipse?

Well I say ice is Jacob and fire is Edward because the other way around makes no sense in my interpertation. Some say the world will end in fire(Bella will pick Edward) Some say in ice(Bella will pick Jacob) From what I’ve tasted of desire( She has tried both) I hold with those who favor fire(She likes being with Edward more) But if it had to perish twice(But if Edward went away) I think I know enough of hate(Shes learned enough to know she could not live without him) To say that for destruction ice(But if ice went away) Is also great (it would be okay) And would suffice( and would satisfy) I hope that helps you understand!!!!
