What does the physician ask when going for the pill for contraceptive purposes?
At your age they will typically do a pelvic exam (not a pap because you are a virgin) just to make sure you are gynecologically sound. Then they will ask you about your preferences, might ask your sexual history (simple answer for you) and will ask what other medications you are taking, if you smoke or have had a blood disorder, and how long you may want to stay on birth control. If this is part of a physical they will do all the normal things like weight and height, they may also do this if it has been a while since these things have been measured or your health has recently changed. It takes 30- 60 days to be totally effective but if you start on the day of your period you are considered ‘safe”. still 60 days after is best, but as you plan on using condoms as well then there is no problem!
Just explain to the doctor that you are getting married and you want to be prescribed the pill as a method of contraceptive, they will be fine with it. Good idea on using both the pill and condoms (we are newlyweds and we do the same for the same reasons). Just some advice for your wedding night: Talk to your fiance before your wedding day about any worries/what expectations/possible positions etc, it will take the pressure off and it will relax you. Do plenty of foreplay. Have some lubrication with you (you will get the lube and condoms in the pharmacy), if you are nervous the muscles will be tight so if you are not well lubricated the condom may split. Also ask your husband to be gentle in the beginning so it won’t hurt so much. Have fun and relax, it will make it more enjoyable and take the pressure off. If things don’t go according to plan, don’t worry, you have your life together to find what’s right for you and your fiance. As long as you are in love, you will work it out. One fi
My GYN just ask the basics…did i drink or smoke; did i have a history of blood clots in the family; was i sexually active; were my periods regular; how heavy were they etc etc etc. Most GYNs will do a pelvic exam just to get a base line and check your cervical cells. Mine didn’t though…i ended not having to have a pelvic exam until 4 years later when i got pregnant. It just depends on what doctor you have. They will also do a breast exam most likely and check for any lumps. And they might check below, if they don’t do a pelvic exam, to make sure everything looks okay externally (this is what my GYN did). As for how long it takes to become effective… Be on it for at least 30 days before having sex. That’s when it’ll be at it’s full potential effectiveness wise.
