What does the “ODBC setup Library is Locked” error message mean when I am installing the Armlink ACE Classic program?
The “ODBC” setup library is locked means that there is an application running on the system that accesses a database. ACE requires exclusive use of the Windows database drivers (ODBC) during installation. If you are running Windows XP with Service Pack 2, the program “alg.exe” maybe running in the background which can cause problems with ACE. Please do the following: • Hit Control-Alt-Delete • Click on the Task Manager • In the Process tab, click on the “Image Name” column • Then look for an process called “alg.exe”. Highlight it. • Click on the End Process Button • Try to re-install ACE If the above does not work, you may need to stop some Window database services that automatically start like SQL Server, MSDE, Oracle, etc. Also, it could be a program in running in the background. Often you have to randomly terminate processes from the Task Manager. At this point, it becomes a guessing game of terminating 3 or 4 processes at a time and trying to reinstall ACE.
