J1 Exchange Visitors are admitted to the United States for the period of time necessary to complete their program, and are given the notation “D/S” (Duration of Status) on their I-94 Arrival/Departure Record at the port of entry. They are permitted to stay to the end date listed on the Form DS-2019, plus the 30-day grace period, as long as they have participated actively in their program.
