What does the new Turner Classic Movie Here Comes Mr. Jordan talk about?
I actually saw this movie and remembered it just now. A great movie. Highly recommended. Anyways, here’s a brief background and a plot summary: When Columbia Pictures released the comic fantasy Here Comes Mr. Jordan in 1941, it was such a megahit that it not only spawned a sequel, Down to Earth, and an entire subgenre of imitations like A Guy Named Joe, Angel on My Shoulder, The Bishop’s Wife and For Heaven’s Sake, but it was also remade as Heaven Can Wait (1978) and Down to Earth (2001). When prize fighter Joe Pendleton (Robert Montgomery) is seemingly killed in a plane wreck, his spirit is taken to heaven by celestial Messenger 7013 (Edward Everest Horton). It turns out that, according to the records, Joe is destined to live for another 50 years, but he can’t be returned to his original body because his best friend and manager Max Corkle (James Gleason) had it cremated. Heavenly supervisor Mr. Jordan (Claude Rains) offers to place Joe’s soul in the body of someone recently deceased,
