What does the new MIPPA legislation stand for?
MIPPA stands for the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008. It was approved by Congress and became law on July 15, 2008. As a result of this new law, the mid-year 2008 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) rate reduction of -10.6 percent was retroactively replaced with the fee schedule rates in effect from January – June, 2008, which reflected a 0.5 percent update from the 2007 rates. In addition, MPFS payment rates are being revised to increase the fee schedule amounts for certain mental health services.
