What does the New Brunswick government’s $661-million capital budget mean for Mount Allison?
The New Brunswick government understands that in times of economic hardship investing in higher education is a critical and effective instrument to create new economic opportunities. Of the $661-million announced in Tuesday’s budget, Premier Shawn Graham has committed $60-million to the Province’s four public universities — money that is to be spent on infrastructure renewal over the next two fiscal years. How will the University spend these new funds? These funds that will become available on April 1, 2009 are intended to stimulate the economy and create local jobs. To that end Mount Allison, and its facilities management team, intends to work with local businesses and contractors to complete some much-needed infrastructure updates.
