What does the National Asia Research Program consist of?
The NARP comprises six activities: • Selection of leading Asia scholars as National Asia Research Associates and Fellows, who will receive research stipends to support their work, • A major conference – the Asia Policy Assembly – that will feature presentations by the Research Associates and Fellows and other leading experts on policy issues in Asia, • A Scalapino Prize, to be awarded in honor of Professor Robert Scalapino to one Research Associate or Fellow at the Assembly, • A Presidents’ Seminar that will bring together the presidents and chancellors of top institutions of higher learning and research organizations in the United States to assess the status of Asia Studies programs, • A Robert Scalapino Symposium that will feature the Scalapino Award winner and select Research Associates and Fellows, and • Opportunities to publish policy relevant research.
