What Does The Name Liliuokalani Mean?
Liliuokalani was the name of the queen of Hawaii. She was originally named as Lydia Kamaka’eha. She chose the name of Liliuokalani after her coronation and was later renamed as Lydia K Dominis. She was the last monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaii. She was born in Honolulu on 2nd September 1838. She was married to John Owen Dominis, the Governor of O’ahu. She ascended the throne on 17th January 1891 and succeeded her brother Kalakaua. She was well educated and fluent in English. Her reign lasted until 1893 when she was deposed off by Sanford B. Chole and his missionaries who were in favour of a United States annexation. She tried to restore traditional monarchy but was unsuccessful. She was a very talented musician and has written more than 150 songs including the famous song “Aloha Oe”. She formally renounced the throne after a failed rebellion to over throw her and spent the rest of her life in United States.
