What does the “Name Failed Verification” error message on my SSN check mean?
If the failure occurs within an employment/tenant nationwide or employment/tenant statewide check, there may be a few different reasons: • If there is a Names Reported section, review those names. If they are similar to the name of the applicant in question, the SSN verification likely failed because of the differences in the names. This can occur with maiden/married names as well as if the individual uses or has used two last names. • If the name you entered is completely different than the Names Reported, it is most likely due to an incorrect SSN. If there is not a Names Reported section, it means that we are unable to verify the SSN. This does not necessarily mean that the SSN is invalid.
