What does the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada think about the creation of the CIHR?
Like other voluntary health organizations, the MS Society welcomes the launch of the CIHR. The federal government’s pledged increase in funding should stimulate even greater research efforts and the collaborative approach across health disciplines should benefit MS research as well. Will the CIHR change the way the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada funds its research program? No, the MS Society will continue to raise funds for and administer its well-respected research program. The CIHR may in the future provide the MS Society with an opportunity to partner with a CIHR institute or CIHR-funded researchers through joint funding of projects or other initiatives, but the MS Society will continue to concentrate on research that is focused on preventing, treating and curing MS and providing better quality of life for people who have MS.
