Rent started out an adaptation of the opera “La Boheme”, but ended up being so much more. It’s a story of a group of young people, artists, friends and lovers struggling to live and celebrate life…it deals open and honestly with the scourge of HIV and AIDS as well providing an intimate portrait about poverty, passion, disease in East Village. I’d say it shows how much can change (or stay the same) in the 525,600 minutes that make up a year.
