What does the “Line In” jack in motherboard do?

A “Line in” jack is used to imput an audio signal to the computer e.g you can run a minijack to minijack between a CD player and the line-in port and the sound would come out of your PC’s speakers, it is very useful also if you have a laptop with rubbish speakers, I do it with mine and it works beautifuly, p.s you can also do the same thing with a microphone socket.
