What does the larval form of lady beetles look like?
Most often, gardeners describe lady beetle larvae as “tiny alligators” because of their body shape. They are elongate in shape, somewhat flattened, and covered with tiny spines. Depending on the species, larvae can be anywhere from 3-15 mm in length. Color is usually black or dark gray with conspicuous red, orange, yellow, or blue markings. Lady beetle larvae are certainly a worthy bio-ally; learn to recognize and conserve them in the landscape.
