What does the Juvenile Parole Board (JPB) do?
The JPB has the authority to make several decisions regarding the status of youths in facilities and on parole. At the Parole Consideration Hearing, the JPB determines whether or not to release the youth on parole and under what conditions. During the parole revocation process, the JPB determines whether to revoke a youth’s parole status or continue him or her on parole. While on revocation, the JPB presides at Revocation Extension Hearings determining whether or not to extend the revocation period due to a youth’s serious in-custody misconduct or willful program failure, and conducts Exit Interviews releasing youths back on parole. The JPB also considers appeals by youths in facilities who are challenging any addition of time to their set parole board dates. The JPB discharges youths from DJJ and assigns the corresponding discharge status, i.e., honorable, general, dishonorable.
