What does the JBoss Patch Content feature of JON actually do? Is it completely automated?
The patch process updates existing jar/class files with upgraded jar/class files that are contained in the patch zip. Other changes that need to be completed manually, all the “Not Performed” steps for example, are also listed. If your configuration does not include one of the jars to be patched, then that step will be skipped. The patching process does not explicitly care about what the server configuration profile is called or which base configuration it is derived from.
