THE Ministry of Sports, in a bid to avoid further embarrassment to the country, is putting in place stringent measures for national sporting associations to qualify as hosts of regional or international tournaments. The move follows the Jamaica Volleyball Association’s (JAVA’s) poor management of the FIVB World Championship Group D qualifying tournament at the National Indoor Sports Centre in May, when the Haitian team arrived without the required travel documents. Minister of Sports, Olivia Grange, says Government cannot allow the country to be embarrassed when national sporting associations fail to properly organise international events. “They (sports associations) have to ensure that they’re structured in a way that they can efficiently manage a tournament. When a country is hosting an event through its association, if something goes wrong it is the country that is embarrassed and so it is necessary for them to come to Government and indicate that they would wish to bid for an event
