What does the IT Department install when a request is submitted for wireless networking?
IT will install wireless networks that conform to the IEEE 802.11a/b/g specification using Direct Sequence Spread-Spectrum (DSSS) technology. Technology in this field is changing rapidly, so we won’t attempt to enumerate specific brands and model numbers here. IT is responsible for installing and managing the necessary wireless Access Points (i.e., hubs) and the associated wired networking infrastructure to provide wireless network coverage for your area, department, or building. Our responsibilities also include the proactive monitoring of such devices, timely firmware upgrades, and the resolution of any outage.
