On an interface (e.g. Ethernet 0/1) the bandwidth value is passed to upper-layer protocols (e.g. routing protocols) and is used in cost calculations. Unlike the QoS priority bandwidth command used for physical interfaces, the bandwidth command does not affect traffic forwarding.
