What does the “G” stand for in the Mason fraternal organization?
Internationally, the G stands for Geometry. Geometry is the foundation of architecture and the root of the mathematics, and is therefore the basis for operative Masonry as well as speculative Masonry. In addition to Geometry, American Freemasonry also uses the G to signify God, as although Freemasonry is not a religion, its members are religious, and the fraternity encourages its members to remember their creator. Some other countries do not assign G to God, as the word for God in many other languages doesn’t start with a G. Most Masonic references to G have to do with Geometry.
