What does the Filipinos know about Carthage?
Carthage was a Phoenician colony. It became a supreme power in the Mediterranean Sea until it was terrorized and subsequently occupied by Roman legions. Hannibal, who was born here, sought to downplay Roman might by attempting to conquer Rome through the European Mainland. Eventually, his forces were depleted as they crossed through the Appenines and Alps, and they were forced to return back. Augustine of Hippo, the first bishop of North Africa, was also born near the city of Carthage. Carthage is now a surburb of Tunis, the capital of Tunisia.
