What does the Division of Environmental Protection (DEP) do?
The Division of Environmental Protection undertakes a shellfish management program, runs educational programs at the Mount Sinai Nature Center, reviews projects before the Town of Brookhaven Town Board and Planning Board concerning matters affecting the environment and other natural resources of the town, and insures compliance with the State Environmental Quality Review Act. Additionally, the Division is the entry point for Chapter 81 Wetlands and Waterways Wetland and Coast Erosion and Hazard Area permit applications. The Division is also involved in Coastal Management issues and open space land acquisition.
