In Colorado, it is a statutory requirement for every school district to have a District Advisory Committee (DAC), and every school to have a School Advisory Council (SAC). The DAC supports the work of School Advisory Councils, but also makes recommendations on accountability to the Board of Education. Membership in the DAC is comprised of a member from each school’s School Advisory Council, along with at least one teacher, one school administrator and one business person. The purpose of the SAC is to provide opportunities for parents, staff, and community members to be involved in the planning and evaluation of the school’s instructional program, along with being a representative voice for the community.
