1. This is a preventative legal measure to protect our not-for-profit status. We do not KNOW every “new” member who signs up. Several writers are known to frequently “sue” publishers etc. for copyright infringement which means right or wrong the publisher or organization has to hire an attorney to contest. As a not-for-profit songwriters educational facility we must eliminate ANY possibility of expensive legal lawsuits when applicable. 2. Also, we receive songs in from all over the country that often have the SAME TITLES, SUBJEC T MATTER, and sometime very SIMILAR LYRIC. A member may think that NSAI has SHARED their song. (The REASON for songs sounding similar is that we all draw from the same human elements, are affected by social events) 4. This clause is required by our attorneys in that our evaluators are contracted pro writers who are listening and offering their years of experience to our members not our staff. 5.
