What does the counselor at Winter Park do?
I have been an educator in the New Hanover County school system for over twenty years. Prior to receiving my Masters in Arts in Education, I was an elementary art teacher. I joined the Winter Park staff as a school counselor in 1998. Two years ago I received my National Board Certification. The Winter Park counseling program is child-centered, preventative in design and driven by the social, emotional and academic needs of each student. I provide classroom guidance every other week in each classroom, small group counseling and individual counseling. I also to offer developmental and educational workshops and information sessions to help parents and guardians better meet the needs of their child. On-going group counseling sessions are available for all students. Small group counseling is a great way for students to get to know each other in a setting other than the classroom.
