If the subscribe policy is set to Open+Confirm, this means that when someone subscribes (or is subscribed) to the list, they will get an email from majordomo asking them to confirm their subscription. Within that email there will be an authentication number, which must be sent back to majordomo with another subscribe command. This is much better for security, and if someone is interested on being on the list then they won’t mind doing this. It also stops someone adding lots of incorrect email addresses, or email addresses of someone who has not expressed their desire to be on the list. However if the subscribe policy is just set to open then the confirmation of subscription is skipped.
