What does the cochlear implant candidacy evaluation include?
There are a number of standard tests that are conducted as part of the cochlear implant evaluation process. Special evaluations may be scheduled if necessary. The purpose of each evaluation is described below. In general, our team needs to make sure that recipients and families are well informed about all aspects of the cochlear implant process. Additionally, we need to make sure that patients are appropriate candidates for a cochlear implant, meaning that they will obtain more benefit from a cochlear implant than from traditional hearing aids. This comprehensive process also confirms each child’s enrollment in an appropriate rehabilitation program. The various evaluations are scheduled in order to reduce the number of visits required to the Medical Center.
