What does the Cath Lab at Le Bonheur provide its patients?
Le Bonheur’s cardiac catheterization lab (often referred to as the cath lab) allows for the testing, diagnosis and intervention of various cardiac diseases. Cardiac procedures that we provide in our state-of-the-art facility include: • Diagnostic Pediatric cardiac catheterization – during this procedure, an angiogram, or X-ray movie, is taken of a child’s working heart. It will measure intracardiac blood pressure, show exactly where the blood flows and determine if there are any abnormalities of the heart. • Interventional Pediatric Cardiac Catheterization – these are procedures performed to improve the functioning of the heart. They include opening narrowed areas with balloons and stents, closing unwanted vessels with coils or intravascular devices, and ablation for unwanted rhythm problems. • Examples of interventional cardiac catheterization procedures include: • Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) closure – currently the only medical center in Memphis capable of performing an ASD closure on
