What does the BARF diet for dogs consist of?

I did a lot of research online into BARF and other home prepared food in researching a diet for my Dachshund that was allergic to his dry food. We at first went with another feeding type, but quickly switch to a modified BARF when it became apparent that he was allergic to all grains. I highly recommend the BARF for the freshness and variety of foods. I have issues with raw meats though, so we use boiled sirloin. This morning there was:boiled sirloin, fine chop broccoli, canned pumpkin, kelp, salmon oil, powdered calcium (as we use no bones) and probiotics. Almost any vegetables will do as long as they are fine chop or raw. Fruits I use are apple slice, orange and banana. They love blueberries (at least mine do). Stay away from grapes, raisins mushrooms onion, and garlic. Sucess is a healty dog, shiney coat, more vitality, and he has lost almost 9 lbs of needless fat since August. The vet is thrilled his health problems have gone.

I am so pleased to hear that you are seriously considering a BARF diet for your dog! I feed my dog on a BARF diet and it’s so easy. How much to feed depends on the size of dog and it’s metabolism. Although, there is no wrong way to do it, it’s just a matter of trial and error. If your dog starts to get porky, cut down and vice versa. My dog, Keira, is quite a large Boxer cross and gets a run out for at least 2hours every day. I feed her a chicken carcass in the morning with maybe a raw egg, shell & all, then another carcass in the evening. I often give her a piece of offal or a pigs trotter as well as the carcasses. If I find she’s having a bit of trouble passing solids, I mix some porridge oats with some natural yoghurt for fibre. I don’t give her any vegetables at all, she doesn’t need them, think about it-they’re carnivores- she is thriving! Another great effect of the BARF diet is that her solid waste doesn’t smell nasty and it’s not sloppy. This diet is so easy-just start! I can’t
