What does the Australian Government do for immunisation?
A number of Australian Government initiatives in the past decade have led to the immunisation success story. They include funding immunisation-related financial incentives for parents and providers and the National Childhood Immunisation Register. The Government also funds state and territory governments to purchase vaccines. The National Immunisation Program (NIP) Schedule lists the diseases for which immunisation is available and the ages at which doses should be given for those currently funded under the National Immunisation Program. Although vaccines are provided free under the National Immunisation Program for the ages outlined in the Schedule, a GP consultation fee may be charged for the immunisation visit.
