What does the American Red Cross do in disasters?
The Red Cross provides emergency shelter, food and clothing to assist people immediately following a disaster. Volunteers assist with replacement of medications and equipment, provide emotional support, and serve as an information and referral source to help those affected obtain other resources. After large scale disasters, the Red Cross also provides emergency communication between disaster victims and family members located outside the disaster area.
