Using Thomas Ehrlich’s words, civic engagement is: • Working to make a difference in the civic life our communities and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make that difference • Promoting the quality of life in a community through both political and non-political processes • What are the broad student-learning outcomes of the ADP? • To increase the understanding of democracy’s conceptual and historical roots • To create an understanding of Contemporary issues and events • To provide opportunities to learn and experience core processes of civic engagement • To develop a commitment to act, to become invoiced in the life of the community • What does the ADP mean for faculty and staff workload? While any new initiative requires an initial focus of attention on discussion and planning, the ADP objects can be simply embedded in the existing work of faculty, staff and student
