Most individuals with OCD also have compulsions, repeated acts meant to reduce the anxiety associated with the obsessions (e.g., washing or cleaning, repeatedly checking or arranging). As with all of the anxiety disorders, individuals with OCD may develop avoidance behaviours to avoid the occurrence of obsessions and thus the associated anxiety and need to engage in compulsions. For example, some individuals may open public washroom doors with tissues between their hand and the door knob to avoid the thought of being contaminated, or may avoid driving a car to prevent intrusive obsessions that they may have inadverte
