What does the acronym EASE in EASE-Grid stand for?
EASE-Grid stands for Equal-Area Scalable Earth Grid, and refers to the set of three equal-area projections (North and South azimuthal, and global cylindrical), combined with an infinite number of possible grid definitions. (Originally, the ‘S’ in EASE stood for ‘SSM/I’ but because there is nothing SSM/I-specific about the grid definitions, NSIDC changed the acronym connotation.) The grid chosen for this SMMR data set is the 25 km resolution for all three projections.
