What does telescoping lid mean?
Since the lid must fit over top of the box, the lid is made slightly larger than the box to allow the lid to freely slide down over the box. This makes a telescoping effect. If one refers to the lid as “full telescoping”, this means that the lid is the same height as the box and comes down flush with the box bottom. In most cases, lids are not quite as deep as the box in order to allow the box to be opened with greater ease. In some instances when a full telescoping lid is required, small half circle “thumbnotches” are placed on the bottom edge of the lid to allow ease of opening the box.
