What does TC and TG mean when winding a coil or pickup?

I also use the term TL which means the top of the pickup is facing left on the winding machine that I am using. If you see TR that means the top of the pickup is facing right. The term TC means when facing the pickup, the top of the pickup is coming towards you or TC (top coming). When facing the pickup and the top of the pickup goes away from you, that means TG (top going). When a pickup is wound either TC or TG the winding direction determines the electrical phasing especially when used with another pickup. This is different than magnetic phasing which can be South or North. When the winding direction is combined with magnetic polarity will cause a pickup to be in or out of phase when used with other pickups in combination. Single coil pickups can be wound four different ways and that can be a problem when combining other pickup brands when modifying your instrument. Here are some ways to wind a single coil pickup. 1. Top Coming-South 2. Top Coming-North 3. Top Going-South 4. Top Goi
