Staph aureus grows well in the lab on trypticase soy agar or blood agar. They are able to grow in media containing 10% NaCl, so such a medium is selective for staph aureus. It is a facultative anaerobe, which means that it CAN live without oxygen, but grows better with it. It grows well between 30-50 degrees Celsius.
