Seroquel is an atypical anti-psychotic medication usually used to treat schizophrenia and manage/treat especially the manic portion of bi-polar disease. My almost 17 year old son was on seroquel for about the last 2 or 3 years. His meds have been adjusted frequently so it’s hard to remember. He is bi-polar (which is the modern term for manic-depressive). Basically, he’s been manic 90% of the time and hasn’t had nearly as much trouble with the depression. Anyhow, the Seroquel was helping bring him down from his manic highs. But, it was heavily sedating at his dosage (300 or 400 mg was his regular dosage). Without the seroquel he could literally stay up all night and become more and more agitated as the night wore on. He hasn’t had great stable moods though and we felt that we had given seroquel enough time to work and messed around with lots of different drug combos.
