What does Satyricon mean?
Satyricon are a dark (and in my opinion, a quite awful) metal band. Satyr was also the Greek god of woodlands and and forestry. Satyricon is etymologically linked with Satyr who was arelatively dark yet amuisng ‘***’ figure with long ears and a tail. The Satyricon is a collection of shorter latin pastoral/social stories written by Petronius…the most famous of which was the Dinner with Trimalchio. The ideas which fly best when connecting it to metal music seem to do with the idea of dark/simple/socially aware entertainment! Thanks, Iron Maiden rule!!
